We have studied this quite deeply, as should any business owner.
I think the very misunderstood word is RISK’ and ‘SAFETY’
My conclusion of RISK is that it is CHANCE x CONSEQUENCE.
CHANCE is the likelihood or possibility of something going wrong – and this varies from operator to operator, site to site. It also becomes less with experience.
CONSEQUENCE is the effect of that ‘ever so remote’ CHANCE coming into reality. The CONSEQUENCE of a Fall from Heights is usually catastrophic.
So – take whatever chance you want, as long as you avoid the CONSEQUENCE.
And that leads me to my favourite definition of SAFETY.
“SAFETY is NOT AN ACCIDENT”
